About Me
Originally from London, we moved to our home near Inverness in the Scottish Highlands in 2005.
Largely inspired by our magnificent surroundings I soon developed a keen interest in landscape photography. I tend to take most of my photos either early or late in the day when the light is usually at its best; but I enjoy scouting for new locations at all times.
Photography has provided the incentive to get up early and visit beautiful places that I might otherwise have missed. I usually work alone and enjoy the solitude and anticipation of reaching a hilltop viewpoint for sunrise to see how the light will develop. I often visit the same location several times before getting the conditions that I had hoped for. Changeable weather conditions often produce the best photos, so I often find myself waiting by my tripod in the rain!
Autumn and winter are my favourite seasons for mountains, lochs and trees. Spring is ideal for seascapes. In Scotland, summer is midge season – enough said.
My photos are taken digitally and my main camera is a Canon EOS R5 and this is paired with a selection of Canon “L” lenses. For longer hiking trips, or when I need to travel light, I use a smaller Olympus OMD EM1 Mkii camera or my iPhone. I make use of filters to balance and lengthen exposures and usually use a tripod. With advances in editing software, I find that I am making more use of bracketing and exposure blending, which has resulted in fewer filters being carried (but more time in front of the computer).
Photos are shot in RAW format and processed in Adobe Lightroom and sometimes Adobe Photoshop.
